Planet of the Tapes: This c20 split features two new sidelong minimalist pieces from Tempe, Arizona’s James Fella and Montreal, Quebec’s Les Beyond. On the a-side, Fella contributes a clanking, clattering and screeching Intonarumori styled workout crafted from piano, cymbals and guitar, climaxing in a sky-darkening drone. Erin Jane Ward (a.k.a. Les Beyond) follows up her previous Planet of the Tapes split with Silver Dapple with yet another shimmering dream-guitar soundscape entitled “Out, at Sea”, overflowing with spidery, shuffling bleeps and fittingly reminiscent of a Morse code distress call.
